Fry burst lightposts

Fry Burst is a pattern cut out of metal and illuminated from behind. The design utilizes conventional Salish illustration in a contemporary tessellating pattern. It represents the vitality of salmon fry as they burst into this world and begin their journey. The light shining through the cutouts evokes renewal and resilience, traits shared by salmon and our people alike. Our tribe's commitment to preserving our vital waters and the cyclical rhythm of life is reflected in the circular patterns.

Basket Walk-over grate

Across from the parking garage there is an 8-foot walk-over grate. This walkover grate features a polar grid adaptation of traditional Puyallup basket designs. The pattern honors the craftsmanship and symbolism of basket weaving while creating a functional integrated design for the space.

Sparrow rain chainS

A collaboration with Chris Duenas, we told the story of Sparrow through the rain chains. The chains feature different paddles and dentalium connectors. Between these chain pieces, are the buckets that share the Sparrow’s story.

Parking Garage Plants

The four stories of the parking garage each had a native plant to represent the floor they were on: Cattails, Devils Club, Camas, and Western Red Cedar.
